Program Details


Kuching, capital of the Malaysian state of Sarawak on the island of Borneo, is a bustling, diverse city of old colonial buildings and modern towers. Along its Sarawak River waterfront are food vendors, shophouses selling handicrafts and an esplanade with views of 19th-century landmarks: The Astana, former palace of the White Rajahs, and Fort Margherita, built to thwart pirates.

Aims & Objectives

The aims & objectives is to get first hand experience with the East Malaysian local cultures and customs.

Program Description

This program will give you an overview of Kucing and multicultural East Malaysia experience. On the first day of the week will explore the historical town of Kuching. Followed by local language, cooking, art handcraft lesson and cycling tour during the week where you can get first hand East Malaysian Cultural Experience. 

Typical Day

Monday Enjoy a tour of Kuching in the morning followed by your Malaysia Program Orientation in the afternoon. This is a day full of useful information about the East Malaysian Cultural program while also familiarizing yourself with the local area and amenities

Tuesday  You will be taken on a cycling tour around villages in Kuching.This is followed by Bahasa language lessons in the afternoon which will help you with basic daily conversations

Wednesday Start the day with Semenggoh Wildlife Park to observe Orangutans, critically endangered on the Red List.  Followed by learning how to make traditional handicraft, this is a great chance to make yourself an authentic souvenir to remember your time in Malaysia

Thursday You will be taken on a tour around local Churches, Mosques and Temples to gain an insight into the diverse cultures which lives harmoniously in Kuching.

Friday Spend the day cooking authentic East Malaysian Food.

Malaysia consists of two parts which could hardly be any more different and are separated from each other by the South China Sea. While the mainland is a multicultural place that has been moderately developed Borneo will make you feel like you are in the middle of the wilderness. Nonetheless its jungles are stunning and will most likely excite you if you are at all interested in becoming a wildlife conservation volunteer in Malaysia. From highly developed Kuala Lumpur which is home to one of the tallest building in the world to the countryside there is a great amount of travel or volunteer opportunities in Malaysia which are waiting for you.
